New Things Coming!

Christmas is coming, the new year is approaching fast, and we’re trying to keep up with everything!   As you look around the website, please look at the new Calendar page.  We’re just building it, so things are still being added; check now and then for changes and/or updates.  IMG_0806-web2

Our Wrapping Party went great!   Thanks to everyone who helped out!    We had more than 15 who attended, and the wrapping went really fast!

Creative Workshop
This coming Saturday, Dec 14th from 9:30 to 2:00 pm, is our next Creative Workshop, and we will be working on the children’s stockings for Wheeler Mission.   Please join us, they’re very easy, and it will be fun making them!   We have some holiday fabric, and you’re welcome to bring your own as well.   Remember you sewing machine, coordinating thread, scissors, etc.

Please remember that regardless of the ‘theme’ of a particular Creative Workshop, please do come and be a part of the social time.  We want you there to enjoy the camaraderie!   So, you may work on the stockings, or any other project you would like.  We have several Projects that are ongoing, and you’re welcome to work on any of those, even getting started on some of the new projects for next year.

Hats & Scarves, Creative Workshop!

Hats & Scarves IMG_0972-web

First, I want to thank everyone who has worked so hard and diligently on the hats and scarves!   We are at our goal for Jireh Sports!  Thank you so much!   I know there’s just a few people who are finishing up some hats & scarves; please put them in the HD Creative donation box by December 4th.  Thank you!   If you have or want to make some additional hats & scarves for the women at Wheeler Mission, that would be great!   I will be getting them to Wheeler after our December Workshop.

Our next Creative Workshop will be on December 14th from 9:30 to 2:00 pm.   We will be making small stockings for the children at Wheeler.  We have some fabric, and if you would like to bring some additional fabric, that would be great!  Bring your sewing machines and red, green, blue, navy and white thread (and other colors you may need).

Please remember that regardless of the ‘theme’ of a particular meeting, please do come and be a part of the social time.   We want you there to enjoy the fellowship!   So, you may work on the stockings, or any other project you would like.  We have several projects that are ongoing, and you’re welcome to work on any of those.

January is One Year for HD Creative!!

As we come up on our one year anniversary, we look back on what we have learned!   We as a team are reassessing what we can do, and what we can’t do.  So please ‘stay tuned’ for further information!   We want everyone to thoroughly enjoy what you’re doing.   We will definitely be continuing with teaching, and will modify timing of projects to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules.

Fall is Here! Creative Workshop on Oct 12th!

Wow!  Fall is here already!  The leaves are beginning to change, coolness is in the air.  It’s so refreshing!

This is the anticipated schedule for this fall; I outlined what we’re doing in each Creative Workshop.  Please take advantage of sales for getting the materials you need, and you can also be working ahead if you like!

October 12: continuing on the hats & scarves for Jireh Sports and Wheeler Mission

November 9: finalizing the sorting / sizing of hats & scarves for Jireh Sports, and the hats / scarves / mittens for Wheeler.   We should have the gender / size list by this time, so when we have the total so far, we will be  requesting certain sizes to “fill in the gaps”.   We can also share the ones everyone has made for new ideas (in case you’ve made the same hat 6 times, and want to try something new!)

December 14: Christmas stockings for the children at Wheeler.  We will be making a smaller stocking, since all the children there are infant to toddler ages.  We will have a basic pattern using Christmas fabric and coordinating solids and prints; with contrasting cuffs, toes & heels, if desired; and crazy patch if there’s interest.   My goal is to finish them in one session (like we did with the pillowcases in August), especially since we only need 18-20.  For this project, fabric ones will work best, and please pre-wash your fabrics in warm water, and dry your fabric in the dryer to preshrink it.

Creative Workshop on Sept 14th!

Our next Creative Workshop is on Sept 14th, from 9:30 to 2:00!

This month we will have displays for each organization we’re making things for (including new ones), along with samples of what we’re doing for them.   Fabrics for new projects will include pre-washed soft cotton knits for cancer hats (you can also use gently used t-shirts); and fleece for children’s hats, scarves & mittens.  All of these can also be knit or crochet; recommended yarn for cancer hats would be Caron Simply Soft (acrylic yarn) or soft baby yarn.

If anyone has a fabric ‘stash’ of fleece they would like to donate to this project, we would appreciate it very much!  We have purchased an assortment of fleece for the hats, scarves & mittens.   A variety would be great!   We will be doing demos of some of these projects, so bring your fleece and pre-washed cotton knit fabric!

We will have a guest to talk about another new project!

We’ll meet from 9:30 to 2:00, please bring your lunch, and bring your projects to work on, including all your necessary materials, supplies and equipment!  If you have something you especially want to work on this session, let us know, and we will help.   Also if there is anything you are interested in learning, please let us know!   Here are the Current Projects you can be actively working on!

See you on Saturday, Sept 14th!

Creative Workshop on Aug 10th!

Our next Creative Workshop is on Aug 10th, from 9:30 to 2:00!

In September, we will be making pillowcases for Wheeler Mission again; they were very much appreciated last year.  We will be getting a ‘head start’ on them this month by getting them cut out and ready to sew (making ‘kits’, like with the tote bags).  There will be a pattern available to use to ease the cutting process.  The full instructions are Here.  There is the Basic Pillowcase Pattern, and the Roll It Up Pattern, and both are PDF’s with pics near the top of the page.

Bring fabric for the pillowcases; 1 1/4 yards each of 2 coordinating cotton fabrics will make 2 pillowcases.  Or, if you’re bringing fabric from your stash, 7/8 yard for the body, and 3/8 yard for the border.  We will be demonstrating the assembly for the pillowcases on Saturday.  Extra fabric may be necessary if using directional fabric.  Feel free to bring enough for several pillowcases!

If anyone has a fabric ‘stash’ of cottons they would like to donate to this project, we would appreciate it very much!  Please make sure to wash them first in warm water.

When we gather in September, we will be primarily assembling and sewing the pillowcases, so please bring your sewing machine.  We will help bringing it in if you need it.  If you don’t have a machine, there will be other parts of the process that you can help with, so do plan on coming!  I think it will be a good ‘group’ project, and we will have a lot of fun, teamwork, and camaraderie!

We will be sharing our upcoming projects for the fall and winter, so there will be some new projects to work on.

Please bring in your totes, we plan to get them to Wheeler Mission later this month.

We’ll meet from 9:30 to 2:00, please bring your lunch, and bring your projects to work on, including all your necessary supplies and equipment!  If you have something you especially want to work on this session, let us know, and we will help.   Also if there is anything you are interested in learning, please let us know!

There are several projects you can be actively working on for the Summer & Fall; a list of them is Here.

Creative Workshop on July 13th!

The Gallery page is now updated with lots of new pics!  Please take a look!

Creative Workshop on May 11

Hello Everyone!
There are enough people who can attend on May 11th that we will be having the Creative Workshop as scheduled! We’ll meet from 9:30 to 2:00, please bring your lunch, and bring your projects to work on, including all your necessary supplies and equipment! If you have something you especially want to work on this session, let us know, and we will help, or bring instructions. Also if there is anything you are interested in learning, please let us know!

Our plan for this one is “Questions & Answers”. Is there a project that you’re working on that you’re stumped? Or just need a little help on? We have answers! Bring in whatever you have questions about! Whether it’s one big one, or several small ones – that’s OK!

Tony also requested if we could do some banners for VBS, so if you can help with those, please bring your sewing machine and supplies!

The fun thing about creative people is that we all have creative ideas, imagination, and the skill of ‘thinking outside the box’! Sometimes those things that we think are totally “not right” may be the next ‘Big Thing’! Or at least a nice little thing that we can give to someone who appreciates it!

April Foyer Display!

April is our month to share our love and passion for our craft. We will be displaying blankets and hats in the foyer! We have so much that we will changing the display throughout the month, so if you don’t see what you made, it may be up there later in the month! We will also be displaying ‘upcoming projects’ so others will see what we will be doing over the summer and fall.

Here’s a sampling of what is in the foyer:

We are always working on ideas for new projects, and have some in progress. On our upcoming workshop, we would like your ideas – is there something you love to make? Or an organization you are wanting to make things for? Share your ideas and passions with us!
